Heartburn Relief That's Easy To Swallow

For a huge percentage of Americans heartburn is something they have to deal with on a regular basis. In fact, a good friend had to go in for an endoscopy recently because his acid reflux issues had gotten bad enough to warrant real concern. Gastric acid is powerful stuff and meant to stay in the stomach, so when it backs up into the esophagus it causes that painful burning sensation, and if left unchecked over time, could possibly lead to serious complications down the line.
There can be a lot of different reasons for an individual’s cause of heartburn, but lifestyle and diet have an undeniably big impact on it overall. Stress, poor diet, alcohol, spicy and fried foods are just some of the ways to contribute to a more acidic environment, and a greater chance of excess acid production in the stomach. By drinking alkaline water regularly and including more alkaline foods in your diet, you can help balance the body’s pH levels and reduce overproduction of gastric acid.
That’s not to say, however, that you’re looking to regularly neutralize the gastric acid in your stomach. It’s acidity is key in helping it breakdown the food in the stomach and pass it along for further digestion. But the misconception that the stomach is full of acid all the time is a common one. The reality, though, is that the stomach is prompted to secrete gastric acid during the digestion process, when it has food inside it. So although we recommend sticking to regular purified water around mealtime, the rest of the time the alkaline water simply passes right through to the bowels where it’s absorbed, and you get all the minerals and nutrients and oxygen and good stuff going into your blood stream.
Fortunately, the more we learn and understand about how the body works and how everything interrelates the more we can make informed choices about our lifestyle and health habits. The friend mentioned before was relieved to hear that there was nothing too serious to deal with, and with some minor changes in his habits he could steer clear of any further issues altogether. He’s made a commitment to take on less stress, eat more salads and vegetables, and drinks alkaline water every day, and says the results have been remarkable. We should all be so lucky to have a wake up call that gets us headed in the right direction, before a real alarm goes off.
